S2S joins Heroes, Cowboys, and Companions for Ice Fishing in New York!

S2S spent the day on the ice with Heroes, Cowboys, and Companions, an outdoor veteran organization in Otisville, NY. We joined OCF, first responders and other veterans for their annual Ice Fishing Tournament. It was single digits and almost two feet of snow on the ice, but we had lots of action and were able to introduce this community to citizen science using Angler Diaries to record catches, conditions, and methods.

We plan to reestablish the @NYDEC Angler Diary program in NY, and with this event and great community, we took a big first step! This event was part of S2S’s larger efforts to expand citizen science programming in New York and the surrounding areas In conjunction with efforts with S2S’s citizen science work at Tilly Farm. With Spring fast approaching, S2S is excited to introduce new opportunities to veterans in the the surrounding area! Thank you to @bowhunteronly for your hospitality and expert guidance!
