S2S, Animal Embassy, and Bedford Audubon host an Owl Prowl at Tilly Farm in New York!
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop and host citizen science activities at Tilly Farm in Brewster, New York, S2S collaborated to host an Owl Prowl! S2S has received funding to work with the Cornell Cooperative Extension on a Reforestation Project over the next five years. Over the last few months, we have been working to invite veterans to the area to generate interest in wildlife conservation and citizen science. This Owl Prowl represents one of our first major efforts to generate engagement, and it was a great success!
We had a packed house for our live owl workshop with Chris from Animal Embassy at our Tilly Foster Farm Owl Prowl last night! Chris provided some expert background on owl ecology before we headed into the forest to search for owls. Tait from Bedford Audubon led the group, as he used to different calls in hopes of a response. Several times, Tait’s calls sounded like a real owl, and fooled a number of us. The weather held and the temperature was mild. We didn’t see or hear any wild owls, but we had a great group, gained some knowledge, learned more about the work with Tilly Foster Farm’s Reforestation Project, and many wanted to get more involved. A nest box build is now in the works, and we hope to have them all installed on the property before the end of the month. It was another successful event for S2S and @CCE at #TFF - our community is growing and we’re just getting started!
