S2S and Blue Star families join friends of the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic preserve, Space Coast Master Naturalists, and Merritt Island Wildlife Association in an opening Bioblitz!

This weekend, S2S joined Friends of Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserve, Merritt Island Wildlife Association, Space Coast Florida Master Naturalists and local Blue Star Families for a Pollinator Bioblitz at the Titusville Field Station. We gathered in the classroom for protocol instructions and training before heading out to their dedicated pollinator garden. We broke out into teams with scouts, photographers, data recorders, and a Master Naturalist guide for each team. We had constant action and sightings for the entire allotted time.

We then returned to the classroom for refreshments, specimen analysis, and identification using a library of reference guides. The event was another great opportunity to introduce the world of community science to new military-affiliated audiences and see the excitement grow as the event progressed.

Stay tuned for more from these partners and locations in the coming months!! S2S continues to break new ground in introducing military families to the world of citizen science. If you would like to learn more about what is involved in hosting a Bioblitz, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
