S2S is in the exciting stage of planning and funding our central expedition to Great Basin National Park in August of 2026. If you are a veteran and are interested in a rugged challenge at this incredible national park, you are in for an adventure! The focus of the expedition is scientific inquiry as the S2S teams goes on long hikes through scenic landscapes with park rangers to help them fulfill their critical scientific missions! As you can see on our expedition page, the team is involved in a number of important scientific research projects from studying the Native Bonneville Cutthroat Trout to the Pinyon Jay. Throughout the journey you will get a chance to see one of the most astonishing underground cave systems in the United States (Lehman’s Caves) while making real contributions to the ongoing scientific research at the park. S2S is committed to providing funding for the majority of expenses for veterans who are interested including food, travel, and some lodging. Most of the stay is spent camping outdoors, and S2S has build relationships with local community members to ensure team member needs are met. Over the last two years, we hosted a team who has returned twice to see more of what the park has to offer
2026 will be our third year hosting the expedition, and we are looking for a team of dedicated, interested veterans who want to learn more about science while physically challenging themselves on the often long and tough hikes throughout the wilderness! Does this sound like you! Reach out to us today at soldiers2scientists@gmail.com to indicate your interest. Spots are still available and if you are a team player who likes physical challenges and scientific inquiry, we would love to have you with us!
